/usr/src/libexec/talkd appears to be broken when one runs the screen program from ports and creates the pty's. When you try to talk to someone on the initial login pty, it will show the talk request but in screen, the talk request doesn't show up with either the talk or ytalk client unless the tty is specified from the talk request.
