The one in /usr/bin/ar is from gnu/usr.bin/binutils/ar, usr.bin/ar
was indeed deleted (which is for old a.out support).  Previously,
/usr/bin/ar was a wrapper that selected the right "ar" binary
depending on OBJFORMAT.
