The change before this one broke sparc64 pretty spectacularly. If you built world in the past 24 hours, you'll need to manually build and reinstall a new /bin/sh before trying to build again. I did test the change on alpha, ia64 and sparc64 before committing it, but obviously did not prod it hard enough...
