Which is what's missing in the DNS where the reverse lookup fails; likely, it's a bug that FreeBSD does not come with a caching DNS server enabled by default, out of the box. The FreeBSD library bug is that the /etc/hosts file entry: ::1 is not canonized before being compared, for the reverse lookup. It can probably be worked around by spcifying: 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.1 as the left hand side for the IPv6 loopback address, instead of ::1, in the /etc/hosts file.
