I’m sorry to announce that the avant-garde film scene has lost another
stalwart. Dominique Noguez died rather suddenly in Paris last night. He was an
early, major supporter of French and international film-makers in the 1970s, as
well as the author of several books on the subject, not to mention his novels
and literary essays.
But it will be his wry smile and dry wit that many of us will miss most.
With wonderful timing, the book on aphorisms that he published just two weeks
ago is titled *Encore une citation, Monsieur le Bourreau!*, alluding to Madame
Du Barry’s famous last words on the revolutionary scaffold: “Just another
minute, executioner!"

Adieu, Dominique.
