Hi,

OSUOSL is doing some maintenance reboots tomorrow. This should mostly
not impact us, except for the gcc fortran MatterMost workspace. Which
might see some connectivity issues tomorrow (Fri Oct 30) between 8:00AM
PDT (1500 UTC) and 12:00PM PDT (1900 UTC)

Cheers,

Mark

Service(s) affected: the OSL-hosted services listed below, each down about
5 minutes once while its server reboots

We will reboot the servers behind the services listed below one at a time
to install a Linux kernel security update. Projects using OSL's shared
MySQL or PostgreSQL databases may see a few seconds of failed connections
while each database fails over to its standby. OSL's mail relays and DNS
servers are rebooted with their partners still serving, so mail and name
service stay up.

Outage Window:
Start: Friday, Oct 30, 8:00AM PDT (Fri Oct 30 1500 UTC)
End: Friday, Oct 30, 12:00PM PDT (Fri Oct 30 1900 UTC)

Reason for outage:

The update fixes CVE-2026-46300 ("Fragnesia"), a local privilege escalation
in the Linux kernel's IPsec (ESP) code that is being actively exploited. As
a temporary measure the affected kernel modules are already disabled on our
hosts; the fixed kernels are installed, so a reboot is the only step left.
On Thursday, October 29 we will also reboot our Ceph storage hosts and
Ganeti hypervisors one at a time with VMs moved live, and OpenStack
hypervisors follow the week of November 2 with live migration; no downtime
is expected from either.

Projects affected: phpBB, Linux Foundation, OSRF / ROS, Deluge,
Snowdrift.coop, OpenMRS, Mozillazine, Buildroot, Inkscape, GFortran, Cinc,
a few other VMs on our OpenStack cloud, our FTP mirrors, a POWER GPU
development machine, and OSL's shell accounts and home directories, chat,
Supermarket, WebDAV and some internal web apps.
