Folks,
[This is on a RedHat 7.3 system with freetype upgraded to 2.1.2]
I'm trying the fcpackage-06-27 (Xft1+fontconfig - libXft.so.1.2) with
ximian's gnome 2 snapshot. The desktop cannot start up due to font
matching failure.

If I revert to stock Xft1 (from XFree86 4.2 libXft.so.1.1) then I have
no problem getting the desktop. I am using a vanilla
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf and /etc/X11/XftConfig. I'm using Xrender from
fcpackage in both instances. Incidentally, KDE3/qt3 worked fine with
fcpackage/Xft1.
Any ideas? - I'm puzzled as the two Xft1s should be abi compatible.
[BTW - gtk2, pango etc are from Ximian but they look pretty vanilla.]
