Exactly. If you want to transport MIDI messages over wireless or ethernet 
networks you don't need OSC at all. Qmidinet enables transporting MIDI over 
UDP multicast. IpMidi (by nerds.de) is another interoperable implementation 
of the same idea for Windows and Mac OSX. By the way, other programs 
compatible with the above are Qmidictl and VMPK.

An alternative for transporting MIDI over a network is RTP MIDI, with 
drivers included in both Mac OSX and iOS.
