All:

Months ago, I discovered a problem with fluidsynth where voices for new
notes would fail to play because (my guess) older notes which had faded
to inaudible status were still playing.

I worked with David Henningson on this problem, and he made a fix for it
available (in a PPA).

This fixed the problem in Ubuntu 11.10, and I assumed it would be fixed
in the next release of Ubuntu (12.04).

Unfortunately, the problem (or a similar, new problem) is in the version
of fluidsynth in Ubuntu 12.04.

I went to test if the 11.10 PPA fix would alleviate the problem, but the
PPA fix appears to no longer be available:

ones used instead.

So I guess we need to solve this problem yet again.

The symptom is that the piece plays perfectly for about 4 seconds, then
various voices start cutting-out (leaving out notes that obviously
should be there).

I will be happy to supply a demo piece that it fails on (and it will be
obvious from the sound of it - even not knowing the piece - that it is
failing).

As I recall, when it got into the state where notes started cutting out,
it stayed in that state until Qsynth got restarted, in which case, it
would be okay for the first few seconds of the piece, and again go into
the 'notes keep cutting out' state.

Sincerely,
Aere
