This is a good question but I would like to expand it a little. I have my own
open source project that is hosted on sourceforge.net. For that project we
use the bug and feature request trackers provided by sourceforge. This gives
the project a persistant eazy to manage record of all bug reports and
enhancement requests made by users. As well as a record of what happened
with each item (IE. closed, open, who it is assigned to, added comments...).
Our project has found this to be a very valuable tool and many of the items
in these trackers were actually added by the developers to track their own
work and to help set goals and priorities. And probably even more important
to create a public record of what the project has done and what it is going
to do.

I have been somewhat surprised that flightgear does not have trackers like
this. At least when I have looked for these I have not been able to find
any. Perhaps the project should consider setting up a set of trackers for
this as I think that in the long run this would help the project. I also
think that trackers like this should be public and that the public should be
encouraged to post bug reports and enhancement requests in those systems.
