I don't think so. This bug can be fixed by replacing -O3 by -O2,
so preprocessor macros don't matter.
Also the problem disappears if I add
printf("elems = %u", elems);
just before
upper = (Int32_t) ceil (elems * (1. - RMS_PERCENTILE));
