If you have the *DOM* panel <https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/DOM_Panel> activated when you start inspecting, you stay at the *DOM* panel. This feature is available since Firebug 1.10 and was implemented in issue 5300 <https://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=5300>.
