Hi Alex,
I followed your directions in (2), and maxima successfully installed. Thank you
for the work-around. I deeply appreciate the support you have been able to
provide to me and others for 10.5, and completely understand the constraints on
your time required to support and maintain the most recent fink distributions.
Unfortunately, I am "semi-retired", still having to work part-time as an
adjunct teacher of physics and math to make ends meet, and quite limited in
monetary resources to contribute toward what would be well-deserved extra pay
for you to do the testing needed for a maintenance update for 10.5.
I am always in a quandary as to why, exactly, I can't seem to overcome this
obsession to keep the old machine up and running. For some reason, I am not
ready to condemn it to the recycle bin. So, bottom line, I have no idea how
many 10.5 users there are out there, or how much you would require for doing
the extra work, but I am willing to contribute $25 to the effort (through a
contribution to the fink project, or directly to you?). Is such a meager
amount laughable in relation to the effort required? I guess we can see what
sort of response you might get from others. If there are 50 - 100 of us
willing to do the same, maybe it would suffice.
I wish I understood enough about the fink underbelly, and I suppose competence
in C-programming would help, to be able to come up with work-arounds like the
ones you provide (they often seem afterwords so simple and straightforward),
but I guess if I did I could apply for a job with the fink project. Thanks
again for all you do for this community.
-Mike
