Not exactly "help" ... but I can confirm that steam works perfectly on my laptop ( intel gpu ) and server ( amd gpu, open-source drivers ) while using E19.
Try looking at your 'dmesg' output and Xorg.log ( or Xorg.0.log ... whatever ).
