Yeah, but Jeff said the events are correctly recognized as
XF86MonBrightnessUp/Down so I think xev would not add any useful thing.

I have the same problem as Jeff: keys works fine under gnome, but they
don't under E. I can see the keypress is sent to the focused window
instead of being handled by E, because I see the menubar in the focused
app blinking when I press the keycombo.
