sorry to say... but your gpu is "broken" (tm). :( it worked before simply
because we didn't throw everything at it. now we do... and a gpu SHOULD cope
well with it... but that one doesn't.

just get a new laptop... a cheaper ultrabook will do - something with a proper
gpu.

you can always use software compositing too - but in the end there is not a lot
we can do about "poor drivers/hardware". doing so would hurt memory footrpint
etc. for MOST people (ie every other gpu) and hurt performance. and given that
gpu is dead and not-to-be-produced again... i think the effort in working on it
is a lost cause given every day the # of instances of it shrinks.
