Here's the configure script that i used to build the package in Slackware
CFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \
CXXFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \
./configure \
--prefix=/usr \
--libdir=/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX} \
--sysconfdir=/etc \
--localstatedir=/var \
--mandir=/usr/man \
--docdir=/usr/doc/$PRGNAM-$VERSION \
--disable-examples \
--build=$ARCH-slackware-linux \
--disable-static
it just worked
where did you get the package source?
I got it from here
