Since nobody answered, I have to assume that either there isn't a task
specific tutorial for compiling my own e16...

Oh well. Sooner or later I'll regret that. But at least for now, I found a
work around for that wheezy based distro, and likely any distro that's truly
debian compatible. It hadn't occurred to me that I can simply enable debian
stable just long enough to use apt-get to install e16. Anyway, it worked for
SnowLinux...
