Does no one have any idea how to try to track down what could be causing this
behavior?
I'm reasonably sure at this point that it's not being caused by E16 itself, but
since E16 is where the symptom manifests, it's the only lead I have on tracking
down the problem. Without logs or other output, I don't have any way of
following that lead.
My only stab-in-the-dark guess is that maybe, somehow, a full-screen invisible
"window" is sitting there blocking access to the root window... but I don't see
any sign of that in e.g. the alt-middle-click "open window" list, or in 'eesh -e
wl', and I have no idea what could be causing any such thing to be created, or
much idea why it might be present only on the first virtual desktop.
