Wow! Monitor set for only 20% brightness AND truly dark themes...

Your eyes must be amazing. I'm not sure, but I think even Gollum
needed more light than that... ;-)

But I hear you. Don't matter what colors/brightness/contrast etc...
it takes to make our eyes comfortable, we all tend to insist on it.

Myself, I never did like the really dark themes. Though I'll admit that too
much backlight shining through and intensely bright colors are outside my
comfort zone to. In fact one of the things I dislike about most gui text
tools I've seen is that they tend to all default to black {small font}
characters on such an intensely white background, that it tends to make my
eyes water so much that after the first minute or so, squinting doesn't
help.

It's one of the things I love about Linux (and E17). With a bit of work, and
lots of note taking, one can usually find a way to make things work at least
something like the way one wants. Speaking of which, I'm glad to note that
it seems that fancris3 came through with something dark enough for your
tastes...
