Yes, that was confusing, some things get auto added, but systray doesn't.

The new module has a setting that worked, so I'm good. It's a bit opaque
about what it's doing though ;)

Hopefully, e17 will come with some theme pack like e16 used to.
3rd party theme websites are great, but when it's hundreds to chose from 
just to try out a few things, it's a bit daunting :)

I was clearly confused and now see how it works. Thanks for clearing that up
for me.
