This might be happening to me. Sometimes I find that when I restart E,
things come back at a better size than they do on the first go. If the
scaling weren't applied on the first start, but then took effect on the
second, that might explain the weirdness.
It isn't happening on my laptop right now, and I'm traveling for the
holiday. I'll try to remember to check if that's the behavior on my
desktop.
