No idea about this, I can't reproduce. Maybe a recent change in elementary.

I thought about this during packaging but I don't know well the specs
of embedded device.
It's quite difficult to reduce the overall size of pictures. There is
more than 100 pictures. I could shrink geometry/quality globally to
something like 3MB but the ratio usefulness/size is pretty low. I
guess I will move to the --without-pictures configure option.

PS: using GIF for pictures gives better results for small size, I'll
give it a try.
