AFAIK the standard says the folder could be changed with some envvar,
but not in e17. That could be fixed, but we lack manpower to fix such
marginal case :-/ Feel free to submit patches, we can guide you to
have it done.

As for those nasty .desktop for devices/storage, yes, it's annoying
and it's on the TODO for e17 release. But nobody is working on it yet.
