Superior in what way(s)?

I found wicd superior to gnome network manager in that it (according
to powertop), it caused way fewer CPU wakeups. I.e., much better
for the laptop battery.

But my wicd fails to "wake up" my wireless device in a reasonable
amount of time. gnome net manager always immediately turned the
wireless device on when I wanted it to.

Maybe these two things are related?

I just started playing with exalt last night, so it's too soon to
say anything.
