E17 has nothing to do with the sound subsystem. Though you can check the
'mixer' module settings, delete the old 'echo' module and check other
stuff (may be some weird scripts of your distro) which could do this trick.

the most simple trick here is set your sound with 'alsaconf &&
alsamixer' then issue 'alsactl store' and add the command 'alsactl
restore' into the script which starts 'entranced'. thought all depend on
your distro init routine.
