I'm running e17 on a dual-monitor set up. One thing I've noticed about e17 versus other window managers is that virtual desktops are on a per-monitor basis. E.g. if I go to virtual desktop 2 on my left monitor, my right monitor says the same. I'm assuming this is how it's supposed to work. It's different than what I'm used to, but not a bad thing. I'm really indifferent either way.
But when xscreensaver kicks in, I have what looks like two instances of xscreensaver, one on each monitor. This would be cool, except that the performance of xscreensaver is terrible. The demos flicker really badly, plus CPU load goes through the roof. Is there something I need to change in xscreensaver, e, or even Xorg? Just before sending this email, I was messing around in xscreensaver-demo, and even THAT is horrendously slow. I set the screensaver mode to "blank only", restarted xscreensaver-demo, and even then the GUI was extremely unresponsive. The rest of my desktop was fine. But the xscreensaver-demo GUI took >10 *seconds* to respond to each mouse click. I'll try rebuilding xscreensaver (I'm using gentoo). But in the meantime, if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, I'm happy to hear them!
