usually when there are big changes the version number is upgraded,
so E detects you have an outdated config and replace the
configuration files automatically after showing you a warning window.
if you suspect the configuration needs to be cleaned, e.g. because
you are experiencing problems, you can wipe out your files by hand
so that e can create a fresh config, but in this case it is better
to save a copy of the old configuration in case your problems are
not solved after the cleaning.
