In as far as getting screenshots of e17, I did make a "screenshot" 
module for e17 that can use either scrot or import. It is located in cvs 
at e_modules/screenshot. I've been using it here since the day I created 
it, and haven't had any problems.

It has evolved quite a bit over the course of it's life, with users 
requesting different options be added. To my knowledge, it still works 
very well (as I use it almost every day), but if you have troubles do 
let me know.
