ubuntu's default shell is dash and it doesn't source or set up any environment
for the user thus when the session is run you inherit no path for your user or
from the system (you inherit whatever entrance itself has - and that is not
bloody much).

use the Default session and have your own ~/.xsession file/script that sets
things all up.
