Personally, I rather like the shelf, and have had only one minor problem with it - somehow my e settings dumped and
for a day or two the shelf was 2px wide.. It's now back to normal though.

One suggestion I might have (though I'm sure Raster has already thought of this, but if not...) I think
the shelf needs an auohide feature... sometimes I want it above windows, other times below, so if I could just mouse
the edge when I want it, that would be great.

Otherwise, it runs quite nicely for me, I think Raster deserves kudos for accidentally committing it ;-)

they do. read what i wrote. that's why i get annoyed when people simply
complain due to lack of every having tried an option. now read what i wrote
again - set it to invisible and "below everything".

maybe the name of the option could confuse users... what about
naming it "sticked on the desktop" or something similar?
perhaps a different name could make users to figure out themselves
the advantages of such an option, IMHO.

there is a fixme in the code "this ui sucks"
its complex i need a basic dialog that gives u like 5 pre-canned options or
something or combinations of 4 locations and styles and thats it and then the
advanced one give u the whole lot. as i said - there is a FIXME in that code. i
hurried the gui along because i accidentally committed the shelf code so that u
can at least configure it for now. :)
