That is the beauty of OSS. If you want it configurable, adding an or to the test condition wouldn't be too hard. You could even send a patch upstream and request it's inclusion. Even if you aren't into coding, finding the test condition and changing the condition to TRUE.
I appreciate that too, and I dig into the sources from time to time, but then... a window manager is probably too much for me (I am a physicist not a programmer :)
I really would expect people using software as highly alpha/beta as e17 to at least be able to stumble through the code. You said "are there any other reasons to avoid it?"
I was asking for a philosophical reason (I have argued with more than one human interface designer before and they had plenty of philosophical reasons). There is no point in submitting a patch to change a behaviour the the project leader seems to support. It seemed more practical to ask for an option to change this behaviour. Now, I did not think to write this kind of patch but, in general it's a good idea to ask before doing some work just to get it trashed because "it's' against the design".
Not to sound [insert a descriptive word here],
You seem way more diplomatic than the average RTFS (Read The F??? Source) developer.
I am not exactly "active" with e17's development myself, but if you aren't capable of doing the changes and recompiling,
:) well I think I could edit if (!border->is_maximized) shade_window(); but I wouldn't even know where to start to make the "shade while maximized" behaviour configurable :(
you may look at e16 or another wm until e17 starts to go final. I fully believe e17 will be a beautiful thing once development has stabalized.
I have to say that I find e17 much more usable than a lot of other "stable" wm. Kudos to the developers for this. Bye, Emme
