Based on your explanation, I tried many ways and finally have found a way (probably :) ). Running emacs with "-name" option solves this problem. That is, when running emacs as an MUA "mew" with the following command: emacs -e mew -name Mew an icon for mew is used and displayed at the top-left corner of the window, and it survives at the corner even after restarting e17 or switching a theme to another one.
