If you've set your background image with e17setroot, then Eterm will
happily use it for (fake) transparency.

The "fakeness" refers to the fact that you cannot see things like
modules or other windows through your Eterm.

This is almost as easy as the feature you requst (and can be used with
links in all programs):

  1. select the link with the mouse,
  2. middle-click somewhere in Mozilla/Firefox.
