App is the entire DESKTOP, but I have three other desktops that I want to get to when needed. Two of those probably have an app in fullscreen as well. I know that fullscreen != maximized. In fact fullscreen != maximised + borderless. Some apps have there own method of getting to fullscreen. Xawtv and mplayer for instance. On both, hit the 'f' key and you get fullscreen. However, in e17 fullscreen == on top, and that is also a problem. Run xawtv, make it fullscreen with 'f' key. A right mouse click brings up the control window, but the original window is fullscreen AND on top, so you need to reach for the 'f' key to deactivate fullscreen mode. Most of the time when you bring up the control window, it's only so you can click a single button, or select a single menu option. Then right click to close the control window, and hit 'f' key to bring it to fullscreen again. What could otherwise be a mouse only operation that leaves your TV picture at full size now involves to unnecessary keyboard hits. Which is even more awkward, coz when I'm watching TV, I lean back, and the keyboard is a lot harder to get to than the mouse in that case. Also, during commercials, I like to quickly swap to the desktop with my email client, and see if there is any new email. I do this by moving the mouse off the edge of the screen. If the above mentioned TODO goes ahead, and desktop switches are disabled for fullscreen mode are not allowed, then I am SOL. With mplayer, I have it configured to run in fullscreen mode by default. I also tend to run it from my fullscreen'ed terminal. This caused lot's of problems when I first tried that under e17. The fullscreen terminal was on top, which had priority over fullscreen mplayers on top, so mplayer never appeared. ALT+TAB a few times got me a small mplayer window, which I had to then full screen again. The end result is that now fullscreen is useless, as maximised + borderless behaves the way I want. However, some apps go into fullscreen on their own, and they tend to not like maximised + borderless so much. To make me happy, and I suspect everybody else in this thread, have an option to make fullscreen == maximised + borderless, not automatically on top, and allowing desktop switching. In fact, there is a good argument for fullscreen being on bottom, as any other window opening up (say a control window for the same app) will then be visible and accessible. Every app I maximise + borderless, I also move to bottom, then remember and lock. I have recently changed my email client to maximised + borderless, and on the bottom. If I had gone with fullscreen, I would be typing blind, as the mail composing is in a different window. -- Stuff I have no control over could be added after this line.
