I'd love to give e16menuedit2 a try, but it seems impossible to build under Slackware.
e16menuedit2 requires xmlto. Ok, so I download xmlto. Try to build xmlto and it seems to demand that I be online while building to access http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.2/docbookx.dtd ((It is a shame it can't access the version of this file already on my computer at: /opt/kde/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xml-dtd-4.2/docbookx.dtd but anyway...)) I get online and try to build, it gets as far as: make[1]: Entering directory `/home/breed/Tarballs/Estuff/xmlto-0.0.18' if gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686 -O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686 -MT xmlif/xmlif.o -MD -MP -MF "xmlif/.deps/xmlif.Tpo" -c -o xmlif/xmlif.o `test -f 'xmlif/xmlif.c' || echo './'`xmlif/xmlif.c; \ then mv -f "xmlif/.deps/xmlif.Tpo" "xmlif/.deps/xmlif.Po"; else rm -f "xmlif/.deps/xmlif.Tpo"; exit 1; fi gcc -O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686 -o xmlif/xmlif xmlif/xmlif.o for xml in xmlif.xml xmlto.xml; do \ FORMAT_DIR=./format XSL_DIR=./xsl \ bash ./xmlto -o man/man1 man ./doc/$xml ; \ done || ( RC=$?; cat ./FAQ; exit $RC ) warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl" compilation error: file /tmp/xmlto-xsl.55Bo5e line 4 element import xsl:import : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl" compilation error: file /tmp/xmlto-xsl.TRkAFb line 4 element import xsl:import : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl make[1]: *** [man/man1/xmlto.1] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/breed/Tarballs/Estuff/xmlto-0.0.18' make: *** [all] Error 2 What exactly is needed to build this? What package or dependancy am I apparently missing? The only clue xmlto-0.0.18 seems to provide is this: Q: I'm trying to build xmlto on my Debian box, but it doesn't work. A: If you get `Attempt to load network entity' errors when building xmlto, your system does not have the required support for XML Catalogs (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/entity/spec-2001-08-06.html). In particular, Debian has no support for these. Try the Fedora Project <http://fedora.redhat.com>. It doesn't seem to be the same error, and I'm definitely not changing distros just to get a gui to edit E's menus.
