I don't know about mandrake, but in gentoo, if you look at /etc/rc.conf,
there is a line to change in it that'll make it be used by default.
I'm at work right now, so I can't tell you which line for sure, but look
into it, you might just find it there.
Lemme know if that's not it, I'm curious as to how mandrake works.
