My previous install was a pure E 16.6 desktop, my new install is Gnome 2.4. Metacity sucks, and I want E as my WM. I have tried the "killall metacity; enlightenment" then logout and save settings, but its doesn't seem like the best way to accomplish this. In the E man page it suggest running E and using it for session managment and then using the remember feature to keep gnome panel and other running in each session.
What is everyone elses opinion?
I don't use [xkg]dm, but run startx once I've logged in. That being said, the way I use gnome with E is by putting all the relevant stuff in my .xinitrc file as:
xset dpms 7200 9600 14400 s off m 5/1 b 75 700 100 r on xrdb $HOME/.Xdefaults
xscreensaver &
gnome-terminal & gkrellm & xdaliclock & gnome-panel & E-Slides.epplet & ssh -X gazelle jpilot & ssh -X gazelle gkrellm & exec enlightenment
Then the only problem I have is when I exit, I must use the Enlightenment exit, not the gnome exit. If I use the gnome exit from the panel, I just lose all the panels.
