Try experimenting with different $TERM values. I'm using ETERM currently
and I have the same "problem" as you, though it's not a big deal to me
and I live with it. Try setting your $TERM variable to xterm or linux
and see if it helps. Doing that may cause you to lose some "feature" of
Eterm though.

Doesn't Eterm (non-distro versions at least) include termcap settings
that help with this ??
