This is not considered to be a basic question I believe. The answer is:
I used this recipe to put icons on my desktop:
in your ~/.enlightenment/themes/whatever_theme/
you'll find imageclasses.cfg which add something like:

and you have to place the png icon files in
~/.enlightenment/themes/whatever_theme/buttons/images/ folder
then in your ~/.enlightenment/themes/whatever_theme/
add to buttons.cfg the following:
