Are they moving off screen? If so, you can use eesh's "win_op WINID move" to get them back
I had only three pagers left> Did an eesh > internal_list pagers and got their WINID list. All eight of them were listed..! Issues a "win_op WINID move x y" commands against all of them and managed to get one back. The other four that presumably got clobbered when I invoked a theme that's only good for four desktops or less never showed up despite my using coords such as x,y - 500,500. Interestingly enough, enlightenment still knows about them and eesh does not complain about win_op commands. So they are still around but invisble..?? I assume this gets cached somewhere.. Is there any way I could reset the cache and force E! to re-create / re-display the lost pagers..?
Neat little utility this eesh by the way.. Being a command-line type of person I took to it right away.. at last something in E! that I could relate to :-) Anyway, I fooled around a bit with xprop to try and find the WINID's until I figured that eesh might have a help command... :-)
I've seen this happen after a broken theme causes enlightenment to freeze.. but it also happens randomly - for no reason apparent to me.. Trouble is that when this happens the broken pagers do not respond to anything.. only this middle-click on the border (I think..) that annihilates them.. But I'll give it another shot when it happens again.. may be able to focus them and use a keyboard shortcut to oen the WINOPS menu also and play w/ border settings a bit... or check whether eesh has anything interesting to say about them.. I have a feeling the two problems - cf. above - are one.. the "invisible" stage being just one step further into these lost pagers' demise..??
This might happen if your pager is using a border called PAGER and you
switch to a theme with no board with that name. Try Alt+Right click on
the pager to bring up the window menu and setting a new border style.
I was really hoping at first that there was a process (processes?) behind these pagers and that I might be able to reset them via one form or another of the kill signal.. I looked a bit but I did not see anything promising. IMHO this is a serious bug from a user's standpoint: because you soon develop habits that make you rely on the pager to navigate the desktop and if you miss just one (not to mention four or five) you feel completely lost. Wouldn't be so bad if there was something like a global task list for your E! session I guess. Any way unless anyone can provide further hints about this I guess I'll just have to figure out which one(s) of these really nice themes that I installed is causing trouble and figure out how it does it.
Thanks much for help.
Chris.
