Another thing elecraft is doing with the K3 is to put in ham band only bandpass filters, with general coverage filters optional, but when operating in the ham bands, the ham band filter is switched in.
The single conversion is likely the major reason the K3 (and the K2) are so good. My homebrew single conversion receivers seem to work real well, a good 455 KHz filter is all it takes. Ham bands only, very quiet, nothing modern works as well as the homebrew receivers, except maybe the K3!
