For Field Day this year we had a 130' dipole fed with 300-ohm ladder line running to my KAT100 through a 4:1 balun and it worked great on all bands.
We talked about feeding one side of the antenna to the K2 and attempting to load it up on 160m but never got around to it. We would've needed some kind of RF ground which we didn't have set up. The result is that the antenna tuning will change depending on how the KX1 couples to ground - the antenna will behave differently with the KX1 running on batteries compared to running from a power supply. It is wise to use a 1:1 current balun to decouple the ladder line from those 'ground effects'. Use a 4:1 current balun if it provides a better match to the antenna. An Elecraft BL2 is ideal, it has a switch so you can change from 1:1 to 4:1 and use whichever matches better. 73, Don W3FPR Craig Rairdin wrote: > Can you feed 300 ohm ladder line right into a KX1?
