Good Evening,
Whew! That was fun! The second net ran for over an hour. There was
some QRN creeping up at the end but we had quite a few check ins on
forty. Twenty was not too bad either. In a few minutes I'll get this all
counted up and see how well we did. The weather reports from around the
country were quite sultry. Then there was Pete, W6ZH, he mentioned it was
summer in California. Sorry guys you only get two seasons down there!
Weather on Green Mountain was pleasant with temperatures in the mid 70s
and cloud cover part of the day. I did get to eat some salmonberries on a
short hike today. They were tart but I won't get to eat them once they
ripen much further because they are a great attraction to my neighbors.
Hopefully those pesky deer will leave me a few thimbleberries which I so
enjoy.
35 QNI is not quite a record but is respectable in its own right. The
most ever on any net was 40 but we have had a few other days with more
than 35. Still, who said we need sunspots to have propagation?

As ever, if there are any errors, corrections, or additions to the
above lists please send me an email. I'll get the database repaired. Now
to find a little time to get the sheet in front of my nose to match the
one in my computer. There have been a series of folks checking in for the
second time which automatically (I could only hope) puts you on the list
in front of me while I am working stations. There are five of you
deserving folks who have not quite made it to the printout. I shall see
if I can get that done this week. My personal secretary seems to be on a
long hiatus; I'll have to do my best to match her skills.
It was nice to hear you all. Some for the very first time, some for
the second, and many for a much higher number. Speaking of numbers we
passed a few mile markers this evening: 3800 total check ins (on the nose)
from 501 separate individuals. There are approximately 400 different
serial numbers too. I am not going to count them because some of you have
gone a little Elecraft crazy and have built four, five, or even ten of
their rigs. I am sure Wayne & Eric don't mind shipping you all of those
kits but you may want to think about this problem. How many rigs can you
put on the air at one time? Hmmm? But I must admit: there are four rigs
sitting in front of me as I run the net and another five sitting behind me
on the shelf. There are also a number of transceiver kits in progress. I
think we need a therapy session here!!
On a happier note our own N0SS will have his K3 by next week (cross
fingers here Tom) so we can hear two of them on the air if John, KI6WX,
can get away from the test bench and on the air again :) It looks like
those will be the only ones on the net until another four weeks go by and
the aether fills with another 250 of them. I know there may be one or two
who do not use CW but remember you can always join us to loosen those
cramped fists grown tired from lack of use. Using a PTT button does not
invigorate the brain cells nearly as much as does a little lever of brass
moving downward and upward again.
