70 years ago when I was first licensed, the piece of paper we got from
the FCC had both an Operator License and a Station License, and if we
operated at any other location, we were required to transmit /8 or
whatever call area we were in, even if it was the same. All of that
changed in the '70s, when our license became only an Operator's license,
with privileges and a callsign that are valid, without modifiers,
anywhere in the US and possessions.
When we operate remotely, we must use the call of the "Control
Operator." If the owner of the physical station is present and actively
involved, it can be his call or ours. If he's not involved, we should be
using our own call. The same applies if we're physically present at
another station.
