Hello Jim,

I like using the P3 to analyze incoming RFI. I was able to figure out what the interference was by utilizing the P3.  It is also neat for setting up audio equalization on SSB signals. So many signals have a very pronounced high frequency roll-off that reduces intelligibility at low signal levels. The P3 will pick that up so easily. You are right, it is a very handy piece of test gear.

Wayne,

You left out your most useful piece of test gear that I know about, the P3, put on steroids by the addition of the SVGA module. Using that combination, I was able to measure bandwidth of CW, SSB, and RTTY signals produced by popular ham gear with far greater precision than was being achieved in the ARRL Lab! And I could make those measurements looking at signals on the air, not only in my lab. The critical element was the very narrow resolution bandwidth they provided.

Ten years later, that capability is now widely available in SDR receivers.
