I used mine mobile on 17 meters using mag antenna with it sitting on front seat
with 12v+ from the car supply accessory. I checked into a net giving signal
reports.

Subject: [Elecraft] KX2 Question

The KX2 continues to be an intriguing product for potentially adding to my
amateur radio experience. I continue to be impressed by the variety of
experiences in how users are using it.

At this point does anyone have any experience in using the KX2 in a mobile
environment? Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s I had a IC-706MKIIG and a
SGC roof mounted tuner with their 8 ft.two-piece vertical installed in a Volvo
station wagon. Consequently, I’m wondering how the KX2 could be installed in
today’s vehicles where I would access to the front panel from the driver’s seat
and what current generation mobile antenna(s) might be suitable. Is there a
mobile mounting kit that would work well? Do I start operating “barefoot” or
should I look at adding an amplifier? My primary mode would be SSB.

I also recognize that the KX3 offers additional features, but the small
footprint and potential ability to do “pedestrian mobile” with a KX2 is a
additional consideration.
