Hello,

I have received a letter and nomination materials from the Takeda
Foundation in Japan to nominate a Candidate for the 2002 Takeda Awards.
The Takeda Awards are a new award (presented for the first time in 2001)
that honors engineering achievements. Three awards will be given in
2002, and each award is accompanied by a monetary prize of 100 million
yen (approximately
US$800,000). The Takeda Foundation is looking to recognize achievements
in the following three application areas:

(1) Social/Economic Well-Being (information technology,
electronics-related, and nanotechnology),
(2) Individual/Humanity Well-Being (life sciences) and
(3) World Environmental Well-Being.

The forthcoming award is the 2002 Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship Awards.
These awards support R&D activities that are intended to lead to the
creation of commercialsable products or technologies in the near future.
A maximum of ten million yen (approximately US$80,000) of funding will
be provided each year for up to 3 years. There first will be a request
for topics for possible funding areas, followed by a call for proposals
between April 1st and May 31st. If you have any questions about either
of these awards, please visit Takeda Foundation website:
http://www.takeda-foundation.jp.

If you would like to refer a colleague or professional, please do so
latest by 31st Jan. 2002.

Sincerely,

Fasih Ahmed Masood
