As explained on a separate email this is due to a race condition in the
garbage collector. Unfortunately I do not know any fix yet, but a
workaround is to wait a brief time after signaling all threads to quit. I
implemented this in ECL tonight. Hopefully the BDW-GC developers will come
up with a better solution.
