I also had problems with Chinese characters, even with utf-8 encoding. I 
suppose I need to install some font.

I only have been able to manage this characters correctly inside claws-mail 
(with its internal clipboard).

Now I don't have the time needed to make more tests, I'm sorry. I will let you 
know when I know something more about.
